Editing Technique: Parallel Editing
Movie: Silence of the Lambs
Parallel editing is when two scenes are alternated between to show the actions are happening at the same time. In most cases, parallel editing is a great tool used to decisive the audience into believing the character is being put in danger and helps build up suspense. As you see in the video, Buffalo Bill’s actions and the FBI’s actions are being linked together by parallel editing as if they are both interacting with each other. However; in reality, the two scenes are taking place at different locations, just at the same time.
